FEATURES 

  • MATERIALS 
    • The Burj al Arab is mainly constructed with concrete.
    • The hotel rests on an artificial island constructed with 280 m of concrete piles. 
    • The building contains over 70,000 m3 of concrete and 9,000 tons of steel. 
    • Inside the building, the atrium is 180 m tall.
  • FORM
    • The hotel was designed by Tom Wright.
    • It mimics a sail billowing constructed to symbolize Dubai's urban and modern transformation and to give an original shape to this incredible building.


  • STRUCTURE
    • The Burj al Arab is a shell structure because it's constructed by shaped pieces joined together, forming a sailed form building.
    • TRANGULATION -> It's a triangular structure. The are three pillars, arranged together to form a frame.



  • SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS THAT ARE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT
    • In Dubai we can find lots of erosions, so Burj Al Arab had to be constructed with concrete, a strong material difficult to broken or smashed up.
